LADY IN WHITE is the perfect film to stumble upon on a chill October evening. The film begins on Halloween in 1962 when a young boy (a prepubescent Lukas Haas) catches sight of the ghost of a murdered girl and soon finds himself being stalked by the girl's killer while being instinctively pulled toward the home of the mysterious 'Lady in White.'
What follows is a potent mix of supernatural horror, Spielbergian nostalgia, some smuggled-in progressive polemics and a shocking children-in-peril suspense that only a legitimate “child-murdering” antagonist can provide.
Independently produced as a passion project by writer/director Frank LaLoggia, Lady in White was quietly released in theatres before languishing on home video shelves for years. It occasionally popped up on children's television blocks and unwittingly traumatizing a generation of tykes, but thankfully in 2016 this sublime seasonal spook'em-up was re-released on Blu-Ray.
